T. Dean Wright, Jr. began his career with the Machinists Union in 1983 working for Ashland, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a proud member of Local Lodge 1297 and has held a variety of elected offices in the IAM including Chief Shop Steward, Sergeant of Arms, Local Lodge Vice-President, Local Lodge President, District Lodge Vice President, and currently holds the positions of President of the Ohio State Council of Machinists (OSCM), Vice President of the North Coast Area Federation of Labor (NCAFL), Chairman of Joint Seaway Task Force Local #3, and Vice President Ohio AFL-CIO. In addition, he has also held the position of Vice President Labor & Employment Relations Association (LERA).
In 1998, Dean was appointed to serve as an Organizer for District Lodge 54 in Cleveland, Ohio. Then in 2002 he was appointed to the position of Business Representative and in 2004 advanced to the position of President & Directing Business Representative.
Elected as President & DBR in 2006, 2010 and 2014, Brother Wright is responsible for overseeing the District Lodge in regard to its seventeen (17) affiliated local lodges, current and retired members (14,000+), six (6) staff members, three (3) employees, district finances, and its day-to-day operations in Ohio, West Virginia and Northeastern Indiana.
Dean has been married for 23 years to his wife, Tonia, and they have one child. He is originally from West Virginia but now is a resident of the Greater Cleveland area.
Jerry Espy started working at Pentair Water in Ashland, OH in 1996. Being a proud member of Local Lodge 1297, Brother Espy has served the Machinists Union as a steward and local secretary-treasurer.
In 2009, Jerry was appointed by President Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. to the position of District 54 Secretary-Treasurer/Organizer and has been elected in 2010 and 2014. In addition, to his secretary-treasurer duties, PDBR Wright appointed Brother Espy to serve as Business Representative in 2012.
In 2017, he was appointed as a Vice-President to the Ohio State Council of Machinists and currently also holds the positions of Vice-President of the Ashland/Wayne Holmes Central Labor Council and Vice-President of the North-East Ohio Area Labor Federation.
Jerry has been married to his wife Michele for 20 years and has two children and lives in Ashland County.
Duane Lukens was initiated into the IAMAW Local Lodge 2690 on June 17, 1981 while working at “The House of Metals” located in Cambridge, Ohio. He held the positions of Local Lodge VP, grievance committee, negotiating committee and steward.
On May 1, 1995 Brother Lukens was appointed as District Lodge 28 staff organizer and then on May 1, 1997 he was appointed as a Business Representative. On January 1, 2004 Duane became a Business Representative with District Lodge 34 with the merger of District Lodge 28 and District Lodge 34.
On April 1, 2009 Duane was appointed as a Business Representative with District 54. Then on November 1, 2013 President Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. appointed him as the Assistant Directing Business Representative with District 54, working out of the Dennison, Ohio office.
Lukens served with the U.S. Army for three years as an avionics mechanic and seven years with the Ohio National Guard as a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter mechanic.
Duane and his wife, Debbie, have been married for forty-years and are proud parents of three adult children and six grandchildren.
Jack Baker entered the Machinists Union in 1999 working at Pentair Pump in Ashland, OH. He first worked in assembly and then as a precision grinder. He has operated a variety of manual machines, as well as ANC and CNC, including, set up, operating and programming.
Brother Baker has held various shop committee positions and was elected as President of Local Lodge 1297 for two terms before President Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. appointed him to the position of Business Representative in 2008. He also is a delegate to the Ohio State Council of Machinists.
Jack and his wife, Debbie, have been married for 30 years. They have seven children and eleven grandchildren. He currently resides in Mansfield, OH.
Don Riffee, Jr. began his career with the IAM in March of 1987, working for E&L Transport in Woodhaven, Michigan. He is a proud member of Local Lodge 598 in South Charleston, West Virginia and has held a variety of elected offices in the IAM including Chief Shop Steward, Local Lodge 698 Conductor-Sentinel, Recording Secretary, and Secretary-Treasurer. Brother Riffee has also held the position of District Lodge 60 President & Directing Business Representative, Vice President Michigan State Council of Machinists, Trustee for the Motor City Lodge 698 Health Care and Pension Funds, and District Lodge 34 Directing Business Representative.
In 2010, President Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. appointed Riffee as Business Representative for District Lodge 54 in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to his District Lodge 54 assignments he currently holds the positions of Delegate to the West Virginia AFL-CIO, Delegate to the West Virginia State Council of Machinists.
Don is married and has two children. He currently resides in Saint Clara, West Virginia.
Jim McClelland was initiated into the IAM in 1989 working for Navistar International (currently Core Molding Technologies) located on the west side of Columbus. In 1995, Brother Jim was elected to the position of 3rd Shift Steward; he held a Steward position for 18 years, ten of those as the Chief Steward. In 2002, Jim was elected to the office of Conductor/Sentinel, less than a year later was appointed as Vice President and in 2005 became the President of Local Lodge 1471. In January of 2014 President Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. appointed McClelland to the position of Business Representative for District Lodge 54.
Brother Jim served our Armed Services, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.
He is married to his wife, Carolyn, and has two grown children.
Donna Swaggerty is the Confidential Secretary for District 54 working out of the Columbus, Ohio office. She is married to Brother Mike Swaggerty with two children. Mike works for Core Molding Technologies and is a Member of Local Lodge 1471.
Donna came to District 54 in July of 2012 after being out of the workforce for more than 20 years while raising her family. Donna’s daughter recently graduated from nursing school and is currently working on getting her Nurse Practitioners license. Her son is a senior at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks).
Donna said she feels very lucky and blessed to find such a great job working with a lot of wonderful people.
Regina Wright (pictured right) has been the Social Media Editor for District 54 for the last six (6) years, starting as a high school intern and in 2014 was hired as a part-time employee by the District. She is a senior at Xavier University studying International Studies and Political Science.
